TikTok content calendar template: a 4-week plan for brands

A free, copy-ready TikTok content calendar for brands: 16 posts over 4 weeks with formats, hooks, goals and a day-7 check, plus how to fill it in.

A TikTok content calendar template for brands is a 4-week table with one row per post: the day, the format, the content pillar, the hook, the goal and the number you’ll check a week later. The template below plans 16 posts a month (4 a week), splits them roughly half slideshows and half videos, and from week 2 saves one post a week for remaking whatever worked. Copy it into a sheet and write your own hooks.

Key takeaways

  • Start at 4 posts a week (16 a month), double the median brand’s pace in Quid’s 2026 benchmark report.
  • Write the hook column first. It decides whether the rest gets seen.
  • Plan close to 50/50 slideshows and videos. Big studies disagree, so let your own month pick the winner.
  • From week 2, give one post a week to remaking a winner with a new hook, and keep one flexible post for trends.

What should a TikTok content calendar include?

Seven columns are enough. Add more and nobody fills them in. The exception is a team: if more than one person touches a post, add Owner and Status (draft, approved, scheduled, posted), as our TikTok content approval workflow guide explains.

ColumnWhat goes in itExample
Week and dayWhen the post goes outWeek 1, Tuesday
FormatSlideshow, talking head, demo, comment reply or screen recordingSlideshow, 6 slides
PillarWhich of your three themes it servesTeach
HookThe first line on screen, written in full“3 signs your running shoes are the wrong size”
GoalOne job: reach, saves, comments, follows or profile visitsSaves
Check on day 7The one number that says if it workedSaves per 1,000 views
ResultWin, average or miss, plus the next actionWin: remake in week 2

Three pillars are enough for a month:

  • Teach: useful to someone who will never buy from you (mistakes, how-tos, myths, ranked lists).
  • Show: the product doing its job (demos, comparisons, before and after).
  • Story: the people behind it and using it (why you started, how it’s made, customer questions).

What does a 4-week TikTok content calendar look like?

Copy this into a spreadsheet and replace every bracket with your own details. Fill each Remake row on its week’s Monday from views so far on the previous week’s posts (two to six days of data). The day-7 check confirms the pick.

That is 7 slideshows, 6 videos and 3 remakes (each in the format of the post it copies), and 5 Teach, 4 Show and 4 Story posts. A calendar month runs a little over four weeks, so keep one or two spares for the gap. For more opening lines, see TikTok hooks that work.

How do you make a TikTok content calendar in 7 steps?

  1. Pick your pace. Keep 4 a week unless you can’t hold it for a month.
  2. Name your three pillars in one line each. For a coffee brand: Teach is brewing mistakes, Show is the beans and gear in use, Story is the roaster and the farms.
  3. Write 20 hooks before you make anything. The extra four become spares. TikTok’s creative best practices for performance ads say to introduce your content proposition in the first 3 seconds and to prioritize the hook in the first 6.
  4. Give every post one goal. A post that chases reach and sales at once tells you nothing when it misses.
  5. Make a week in one sitting, so a busy Wednesday doesn’t break the streak.
  6. Schedule in batches. TikTok’s desktop video scheduler takes posts from 15 minutes to 10 days ahead, though Buffer’s May 2026 guide reports the window is now 30 days. If your date picker stops at 10 days, load about a week at a time. Our guide to scheduling TikTok posts automatically covers other options.
  7. Fill the Result column on day 7. As a working rule, compare each post with your median views over your last 10 posts (or this month’s so far on a new account). About twice the median is a win and earns the next open Remake row, under half is a miss, anything between is average.

How do you plan launches, sales and holidays into the calendar?

Mark launches, sales and the holidays your customers shop for before writing any hooks. The week before, swap the Tuesday Teach slideshow for a Show post about the offer. In the week itself, remake that post with a new hook in the Remake row (or Saturday in week 1). As a working rule, keep at least half of each week non-promotional so the account still earns reach between campaigns.

How many posts a month should a TikTok calendar plan?

Plan 12 to 20 posts a month for most brands, and start at 16. The median brand posts 2.0 TikTok videos a week, so 4 a week doubles it. This template sits in the 2 to 5 a week group of Buffer’s study of 11.4 million posts, which got up to 17% more views per post than one a week, with 90th-percentile views (the line the top 10% of posts clear) of about 6,983 against 3,722. Hootsuite’s 2026 industry benchmarks put retail’s TikTok engagement peak at 4 to 5 posts a week.

Should the calendar plan slideshows or videos?

Plan both, close to half and half, because large studies disagree:

  • Buffer’s content format analysis (March 2026) found TikTok videos earned a median engagement rate of 3.39%, 77% higher than carousels and photo posts at 1.92%.
  • Fanpage Karma’s study of almost 700,000 TikTok and Instagram posts from January to May 2025 found that on TikTok the engagement rate for carousels was more than 81% higher than for videos, with reach only 3% higher and shares about a third lower.

Slideshows are the cheap way to test many hooks; videos carry talking heads, demos and trends. After four weeks, shift next month to roughly two thirds of whichever format won on your account.

What day and time should each post go out?

Two large timing studies disagree:

  • Buffer’s analysis of 7.1 million posts (September 2026) found Saturday the strongest day and Sunday at 9 a.m. the single best time, and rates Wednesday and Thursday as quieter.
  • Sprout Social’s data from 307,000 profiles puts the best windows at Tuesday to Thursday, 2 to 6 p.m. local time, calls Sunday the worst day and says to avoid Saturday.

So the template puts three posts a week in Sprout’s Tuesday to Thursday window and one on Saturday, Buffer’s strongest day, and lets your own account settle it. Post each weekday at one fixed time between 2 and 6 p.m. local so day-7 numbers compare fairly.

How do you use the calendar to find what works?

Treat the calendar as a testing plan: each row is one bet with one number to judge it by. At the end of each month:

  1. Sort all 16 posts by your day-7 number.
  2. Move next month’s mix toward the pillars and formats that won.
  3. Retire any hook pattern that missed twice.
  4. Carry your top three posts into next month’s week 1 as remakes with new hooks.

Keep trends out of the four-week plan. Fill the week 3 flex row a few days out, using TikTok’s free Creative Center (trending hashtags and top-performing ads) or our guide to finding viral TikTok formats in your niche.

Can a tool fill the calendar for you?

Yes, if making the posts is your bottleneck rather than planning them. Relay handles the making, scheduling and remaking parts of this template, and you still set the pillars and goals:

  • You paste your website or App Store link and answer a few one-tap questions. Relay looks at what is getting views in your niche and makes slideshows and videos in your voice.
  • You swipe right to approve and left to pass, and can edit the words first. Nothing goes out unless you approve it, or switch on Autopilot to approve for you.
  • You connect your TikTok once. Relay spreads what you approve across the month and sends each post to your TikTok inbox on its day.
  • You see every post’s views in one place to compare hooks. When one does well, Relay makes new takes of it for you to approve or pass.

As of October 2026, Relay’s Starter plan costs $25 for the first month, then $49 a month, for 40 posts made and 20 sent to your TikTok each month (4 to 5 a week). Growth costs $45 for the first month, then $99, for 120 made and 60 sent (about two a day). Or preview a free TikTok content plan from your website.

When is the template enough without Relay?

  • You need Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts published too. Relay’s self-serve product works with TikTok only.
  • Your face on camera is the brand. Relay won’t film you, so keep making founder-to-camera videos yourself.
  • You post 2 or 3 times a week and enjoy making it. This free template and TikTok’s own scheduler are enough.
  • You want paid ads made, not organic posts. Self-serve makes organic TikTok posts and doesn’t manage ad spend. Relay’s managed UGC ads service, where Relay’s team makes your ad creative and reads what wins, is a separate offer.

Questions people ask

What should a TikTok content calendar include?

At minimum, the day, the format (slideshow or video), the content pillar, the hook written in full, one goal, the number you’ll check a week later and the result. The hook column matters most, because TikTok’s creative best practices for ads say to prioritize the hook in the first 6 seconds and introduce your content proposition in the first 3.

How many posts should a monthly TikTok content calendar plan?

For most brands, 12 to 20 posts, which is 3 to 5 a week. Buffer’s study of 11.4 million posts found that 2 to 5 posts a week brought up to 17% more views per post than posting once a week, and Hootsuite’s 2026 benchmarks put retail’s TikTok engagement peak at 4 to 5 posts a week.

Should a TikTok calendar plan slideshows or videos?

Both, starting close to half and half. Large studies disagree on which format earns more engagement (Buffer found videos ahead, Fanpage Karma found carousels ahead), so let four weeks of your own results set the split for the next month.

How far ahead can you schedule TikTok posts?

TikTok’s announcement and Help Center say its desktop scheduler takes posts from 15 minutes to 10 days ahead, but Buffer’s May 2026 guide reports the window is now 30 days, so check the date picker in your own account. With a 10-day window, a 4-week calendar has to be loaded in at least three batches, unless a tool holds the whole month for you.

Should you plan TikTok trends a month in advance?

No. Trends move faster than a monthly plan, so keep one flexible post in the calendar and fill it a few days out. TikTok’s free Creative Center shows trending hashtags and top-performing ads you can check that week.
