TikTok content for apps works when you post several times a week, open each post on a specific user’s problem, show the app fixing it within seconds, and make more of whatever breaks out. Relay does the making and scheduling: paste your App Store link and it writes and designs a month of TikTok slideshows and videos built on the formats getting views in your niche, you swipe to approve each one, and Relay sends each approved post to your TikTok inbox on its day. Plans start at $49 a month for 20 posts sent to your TikTok, and Relay is part of Kinetic, which has launched 10 apps since March 2025 with organic TikTok as its primary growth driver.
Key takeaways
- Relay starts from your App Store link (or website), with no brief to write, and sends the posts you approve (or Autopilot approves, if you switch it on).
- Posting more raises your odds of a breakout far more than it raises the typical post’s views, so test many hooks (Buffer).
- Dating, finance and real-money game apps need TikTok’s permission and TikTok One for creator posts, and telehealth, therapy, weight loss and fasting apps cannot use creator posts at all (TikTok Branded Content Policy).
- Back every health or money claim with evidence, and turn on TikTok’s disclosure setting on every promotional post (TikTok Help Center).
- Plans start at $49 a month ($25 first month) for 20 posts a month sent to your TikTok.
Why does TikTok work for consumer apps?
Young adults are there, and the platform rewards volume. Pew found that 63% of U.S. adults aged 18 to 29 use TikTok (Pew Research Center, 2025). In Buffer’s study of 11.4 million TikTok posts, median views stayed near 500 whatever the cadence, while 90th-percentile views climbed from about 3,700 at one post a week to about 14,400 at eleven or more (Buffer). The full strategy is in the TikTok marketing playbook for mobile apps.
What should each kind of app post on TikTok, and which rules apply?
The hook changes with the category, and so do the rules for creator posts:
| App category | Hook that fits | Rule to check before creators post |
|---|---|---|
| Budgeting and finance | “I stopped losing receipts the week I found this” | Loans, credit cards, insurance or investing: U.S. viewers 18 and older, through TikTok One |
| Dating | A POV skit about the first-date text you almost sent | U.S. viewers 18 and older, through TikTok One; posts implying transactional relationships, infidelity or sexual encounters are prohibited |
| Sleep and meditation | “POV: you said lights out at 11 and it’s 2:14am” | Describe features, not cures; branded content for therapy or mental health consulting is prohibited |
| Telehealth | Problem-first education from your own account | Branded content for telehealth providers is prohibited |
| Fasting and weight loss | Habit and routine posts, not pounds lost (see fitness brands) | Branded content for weight loss products or services, including fasting, is prohibited |
| Tax, legal and immigration | “Things I got wrong on my first tax return” mistakes slideshow | Accounting, legal and immigration services are on the prohibited list |
| Study and family | “5 apps I’d download again if I started college over” | No AI content with the likeness of anyone under 18 (TikTok Safety Center) |
| Real-money games | Gameplay in the first frame, no promised winnings | U.S. viewers 18 and older, through TikTok One |
TikTok’s Branded Content Policy, in effect since August 31, 2026, covers posts that promote a third-party brand in exchange for payment or another incentive, such as a creator posting for your app. For the restricted categories above, the brand needs explicit permission from TikTok and can only work with creators through TikTok One (TikTok Branded Content Policy).
What compliance rules apply to app content on TikTok?
Apps sell promises like better sleep or more savings, and promises are where the rules bite. This is not legal advice.
- Disclose that it is promotional. TikTok requires the content disclosure setting on posts that promote your own business and may remove or restrict posts without it. The label reads “Promotional content” (“Paid partnership” for another business) and won’t change how your post is shown in feeds (TikTok Help Center). When creators promote your app, even for free premium access, the FTC says to put the disclosure in the video itself and not to assume a platform’s disclosure tool is enough (FTC).
- No invented testimonials. The FTC’s rule bans reviews and testimonials from someone who does not exist, “such as AI-generated fake reviews”, or who never used the product (FTC). An AI character can explain your app. It cannot claim to have used it.
- Health and wellness claims need evidence. The FTC’s health products guidance applies to the marketing of any health-related product, lists health-related apps among the products in its past cases, and expects competent and reliable scientific evidence (FTC). Lumosity paid $2 million in 2016 to settle charges over unsupported brain-training claims (FTC). “Helps you build a wind-down routine” describes a feature. “Fixes insomnia” is a claim you have to prove.
- Label realistic AI. TikTok requires disclosure of AI content showing realistic-looking people or scenes (TikTok Creator Academy). More in TikTok’s AI content rules.
How does Relay make TikTok content for an app?
- Paste your App Store link. Relay learns what your app does, who it is for and how you sound, then asks a few one-tap questions. No brief to write.
- Relay studies your niche. It looks at what is getting views in your category, then makes slideshows and videos in your voice.
- You swipe to approve. Right to approve, left to pass, and edit the words first if you want. This is where you catch any claim you cannot back up.
- Relay schedules the month. Connect your TikTok once. Relay spreads what you approve across the month and sends each post to your TikTok inbox on its day.
- You tap Post. Open the draft, add a caption if it is a video, add a sound and choose who can see it. Turn on the content disclosure, plus the AI-generated content setting if the post uses realistic AI imagery.
- You get more of what works. Every post’s views sit in one place, so you can compare hooks. When a post does well, Relay makes new takes of it.
To tie posts to installs, set an App Store Connect campaign link as your TikTok profile link: Apple counts a first-time download when someone installs within 24 hours of using it (Apple). On Android, tag your Play Store link with UTM parameters and read store listing visitors under Tracked channels (UTM) in Play Console (Play Console Help).
On Scale, Relay’s creator network of 50,000 creators can post your approved drafts from their own accounts, sharing Scale’s 150 posts a month with your own TikTok. Check the category table first, since some categories restrict creator posts. If you also run paid install campaigns, Relay’s managed UGC ads service makes UGC ads from that network at about $5 a creative, starting with a free 15-minute call.

Which apps should pick a different tool?
- Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts matter as much as TikTok to you. Relay’s self-serve product works with TikTok only today.
- You want an AI agent running your paid install campaigns. Relay’s self-serve plans make organic content and do not manage ad spend. Superscale is built for that: paste an App Store or Google Play link and its agent makes app ads (Superscale docs), then it can set up campaigns in connected Meta, Google and TikTok ad accounts, including TikTok App Install campaigns, with an approval step before anything spends (Superscale docs). See Relay vs Superscale.
- You want slideshows on autopilot, with more per dollar. ReelFarm is built for that: you set up an automation and it publishes every day (ReelFarm). As of October 2026, $49 a month buys 100 slideshows, and every paid plan lets you connect as many TikTok accounts and add as many teammates as you like (ReelFarm pricing). See Relay vs ReelFarm.
- Your app is in a restricted category (dating, finance, real-money games) and you want creator posts. TikTok requires those brands to work with creators through TikTok One, so start there.
- Your core promise is a health or money outcome you cannot prove yet. Fix the claim first.
